Suitecases damaged

And the latest news - Lufthansa has decided to compensate the damage and sent money to our account. We didnt receive money yet but I believe it will come soon. Hope there will be no more disappointments on this issue.

And finally we received compensation on our account, the case dismissed.

Ok, we are finally back from Russia where we spent last two months. This was a great time to see our relatives and friends but at the same time we had a few incidents before we reached the place. To say that from very beginning of the trip we realized that we have no experience of traveling with suitcases, since we always traveled with backpacks. It was hard but we managed. Kids, o poor guys, they where soo stressed by the long travel in train (we had to spend nearly 24 hours in train from Moscow to the place) Well, I thing parents (us) where stressed even more than kids.

To start from beginning: two pieces out of three of our luggage was broken by Lufthansa. One suitcase has lost it's wheel and small_DSCF3042.JPG the other's zipper lock was ripped off. In the airport we didnt notice the zipper ripped so we didnt claim it, the other, large suitcase, which we borrowed from our friends has lost one of the wheels,  that was more serious. We claimed this damage in the airport, which took us about an hour, but we were ok, and here trouble begins - we have got the phone number to call about this claim to settle it, but later we realized that there are no such number. So, we went to Lufthansa's website and wrote them a note explaining the situation. They replied to us in about two weeks (not bad), telling that we have to fix our suitcase for our own money (!!!) in local repair-shop and then send them a slip with the price, and a paper with description of the damage from repair-shop. We honestly went to the repair-shop in Russia, but were refused in any help since our suitcase is "foreign made" and they dont accept this type for repairs. I send this story back to Lufthansa and they replied that I still need to get paper from repair-shop. The repair-shop didnt give any paper and we would be left with broken suitcase but we finally got the little paper. However, we didnt have money to buy new suitcase and we are still not sure if Lufthansa will accept our paper as evaluation of damage. It occurs to me very strange that such well known company as Luftsmall_DSCF3038.JPGhansa, doesnt trust airport luggage checks with claim filled in by them, but requires third party small_DSCF3043.JPG evaluation. To add to everything sayd - while carrying this suitcase with one wheel broken, the mane frame of it has broke also, and we were left with unusable suitcase. We have wrapped it in plastic on the way back to Sweden, because otherwise it wouldn't handle the trip.

This incident was a big disappointment for me, and next time we will travel direct with Norwegians airlines as we did before, or will not take suitcases in the trip.

I will publish some photos of the damage later on in this article, so you are welcome to visit this page later and read this article again.
