SWARL

First of all what is swarl - this is abbreviation for Shortwave Amateur Radio Listening. The site is committed to SWL (short wave listening) hobby and this is the hobby of thousands of people around the world. Maybe you payed attention and saw a few large antennas standing on the roof of some houses or on the tall post. Well, this is the first sign of amateur radio hobby. I can secretly tell you what is happening under that huge antenna - there is a guy or lady sitting with his/her little radio transceiver, microphone, headset, and maybe a telegraph key for morse code transmitting. I hope i didnt write too many unfamiliar words for you to spoil your interest.

XFCE: Replace Thunar with PCManFM

A caveat about my instructional posts in general... I am a user, and not that much of a power user at that. I know what I know about computers mostly through trial and error. If I state something and there is a better way to do it, please say so. I also tend to be over thorough and explain things as if everyone was a beginner... this is a result of my early thrashings and gnashings with Linux where I wished someone would do the same and where I discovered how much outdated/conflicting/plain old wrong information there is out there. roll Sorry in advance for that...

Best alternatives to Artisteer

Do you have Drupal/WordPress/Joomla etc. powered website? did you ever try to create a theme of your dream for it? do you find it complecated? well, in case you didnt know, there is very nice program to do the job for you in very visual way, the program called Artisteer (all reference links are below this post) The Artisteer does excellent job but it has major drawback - it's not freeware. To say more, the prices are way to high for regulare site owner. I think prices are designed for profecional webdesigners BUT, these profecionals should be able to write even better sites using other commercial products, more suitable for variaty of jobs.

Google Android App Invenrtor

Have you ever thought "I want to have this feature in my android device but... there is no app like this in the market"? Well, google decided to respond to those, who really want to create their own apps without even knowing a thing about android coding, with the application called App Inventor. Now anyone can try to invent his/her very own android application using only visual interface. No need of coding at all. One drawback - the generated apps are very large, almost too large to be applied on some entry level devices. However, google promises to solve this issue. Here are the introductory word from google:

SponsorCar

Remove profile from odnoklassniki.ru

Odnoklassniki.ru was a nice idea and good website at the beginning, but later on the service became somewhat semi-free. If you would want extra protection of your profile you would have to pay, if you would like to write a special note to someone special, you would also be required to pay. Well, there is nothing wrong in payments, but those payed types of services are usually free on other social network sites.

Writing articles

Recently I found a few interesting sites offering different conditions for publishing your articles on the web. One of the sites called http://www.articlecity.com/ offers number of free to use articles that you can insert in your blog or website with the link to resource. Another site that I've registered with is http://www.constant-content.com/ This is basically article market where you can literally shop for the article or sell your own article for the price you think your article worth. I registered there for both buy and sell but at present time I want to try selling the article.

GoogleCL

Google introduced at the end of last week a new tool called GoogleCL. It runs from the command-line (yes, the Linux terminal), and allows users to post, create, list or delete photos from an existing Picasa account, videos from a YouTube account, edit, list or upload documents from your Google Docs account, add, delete or list events from Google Calendar or post on your Blogger weblog. These are just a few of the numerous functionalities of the new GoogleCL tool (see below for a complete list).
