spotify.pngDo you like music? do you have advanced cd-library? do you want to get more music? well, there is one issue, finances, to buy every cd you like, you will need a lot of funds. There is a solution though. The solution is absolutely legal and absolutely free. This solution called Spotify. This service boasting about having over 4.000.000 tracks at the moment and collection being updated very rapidly. The registration in Spotify is free but only via invitation. There are plenty of freely available invitations on the web. The quality of music is quite high and the provided software is very comfortable to use. The service is still in beta testing, and it is not available to some countries, but I believe it's a temporary problem. So, search for invitation and go to http://spotify.com to register and enjoy huge musical collection.

OS for old hardware

I have one really old computer that I use at home. This is a Celeron 566 with 319Mb of RAM and 10Gb hard drive. Someone just threw this box to the out, and I picked it up, because I'm sure that it still can do a good service. After playing with is I have installed a Linux distribution on it called IceBuntu. This is based on Ubuntu 7.10 with IceWM window manager, but the project is almost dead. Because of the condition of this project I decided to move on to another lite distribution. My first preference in choice still was Ubuntu, as I knew this system better then others. So, I tried a few candidates on my VirtualBox and here are the results:

YWAMRestenas site

logo_sv.gifNowadays I'm quite busy with my work. As I mentioned before, we had some problems with the company that hosts our website ywamrestenas.se and we wanted to change that hoster. We decided to get hosting that would give us more control over the server, and we hound a couple of different solutions. Now the only thing we need to do is actually move the ywamrestenas website from one server to another. But before that operation, I decided to practice a little on the local server to manage Internet server (model) by myself. I'm quite successful so far but there is one little detail, our site is too complecated to simply move it. To resolve complications I have to setup our site from scratch and move old content to the new site. This is quite a job, and I ask you to pray for me.

To reduce future risks, I'm also looking into opportunities to move our site from one system (typo3) to something more easily set up (e.g. Joomla). This work is even bigger, and praise The Lord I dont have to rush. Right now I try to learn Joomla as much as possible to move all the templates to it, and convert typo3 extensions to Joomla extensions. I'm even afraid to touch this pile. Home to get more inspiration.

Thank you, my friends, for your prayers and support, I really need them now.

Learn CW online

Why not? CW - is telegraph, or morse code. Many people think that this language is dead, but it is still widely used among HAM radio operators. There are plenty of different codes used for communications between computers but morse code is probably the only one left out of those that possible to read and write by human being, without computer aid. And this code is possible to hear around the earth if there is huge interferance on radio waves. It is fun to learn, and it is useful if you want to join HAM radio hobby. There are plenty of programs and books for studying morse code, but not many people know that there is a whole website that is commited to help you learn morse code (CW)and the site called lcwo.net The studies of code here are devided by lessons, transfer from one lesson to another is automatic. There are different groups of lessons, and there are speed presets available. You can also generate and download mp3 files of any lesson and listen it while you are away from computer and internet.Registration on this site is free, so, if you are interested, go and register there.

GPS etc.

In searching for a good free software for the new phone for GPS I have found a few interesting sites. Did you know that there is a free mapping project on the web alternative to Google Maps? There is one, and it called http://openstreetmap.org/ Also there is quite nice software available for Windows machines as well as for Pocket PC the software called gpsVP  but... this project is too fresh and I startted to use more flexible freeware called Turbo GPS This project has way more tools and is better supported.
Now about your coordinates, if you really want to know where are you on earth, you can use google earth, google maps or if you want to simply know your coordinates - check this site: http://mapki.com/getLonLat.php  You will see your Lat and Lon in very simple way right after clicking on the map. So, if you have GPS enabled device, and desire to use it, check those pieces of software.

HP iPAQ 614c

Here is the phone that I liked and will see if I may purchase it. That phone can definitely be used as PDA and will have all tasks in it. Then I will be able to free some space in my pockets by removing old Palm from there. I still dont have this phone, so, I cannot really tell how good or disappointing it is, but as soon as I'll get hold of it, I'll try to describe what it can do. So far you can visit http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/HP-iPAQ-614-Review-review-r_1927.html and see review of this phone by one of the experts.

Bad hoster

As you kno, I'm a webmaster of http://ywamrestenas.se website. So, last week our hoster just removed our database without notice! The name of this hosting company is servetheworld.net This is Norwegian company. The moral of the story - dont do business with them unless you like the idea of loosing functionality of your site without ANY warning.

Visit http://www.webhostingtalk.com/  before making any decision on hosting.

Do you remember your first visit of internet? Do you remember what pages did you visit, and how they looked like? I've been introduced to the internet in beginning of 1996, remember visiting Yahoo.com and altavista.com that night. Well, resently I found the way to look back at that night and remember how was yahoo and altavista looked like in those days. Check this site yourself, there are most of the site that you have visited within last 10 years.

Linux smartphone

Just resently I looked at the mobile devices based on Linux OS and found some links on OpenMoko project which is basically mini computer with Linux OS. As with full sized desktop, users are free to choose any Linux OS suitable for mobile devices. Unfortunately this phone is still in early development version and hard to say when it will be ready for day to day usage by regular user but, this is the sign of new generation phones that will have FREE OS and will alowe to"hack" it according to users needs.

Well, I wish somebody would bless me with this phone.
