History of the place where I live or lived, is something that was always interested me. Now I live in Restenäs, near Ljungskile in Western Sweden and apparently, this place has a long history behind. I found a few old pictures of Restenäs and decided to compile them so that others would also know history. This article today is just about one house which is currently called “White house” but this series of articles will continue since I have more information and pictures to share.
Since year 1724 in town Backamo was located military camp (regement). In 1880 the new officers house (officersmässen) was built there.
But right before first world war, the regement was moved to a new nice buildings in Uddevalla I 17(which is buildings of KomVux now) and the officers house was not inquired anymore. The house was moved to Restenäs barnhem. Iäm not specialist and dont know all details of moving the house but there are lots of houses in Sweden that were moved from one place to another.
After 4 years almost all traces of officers house were removed from the building and now it looked almost like current whitehouse
Since 1926 the territory with the building was passed to västkustens ungdomsskola (so called V.U.S.) I have more pictures related to västkustens ungdomsskola but those are not related to Whitehouse. During the period of VUS whitehouse was extended with the large meeting hall.
